saint james striped shirts at lark

Before leaving to visit Vancouver a month ago, my friend Mikey raved about how excited he was to go shopping there and showed me the Lark store's website where he planned to go to check out their selection of Saint James striped shirts. He ended up purchasing a short sleeved top with navy stripes and upon seeing it I was seriously tempted to run away with it. One of these days I'll get a picture of how he wears it! Although I do regret not having asked him to bring me back one, I'm still planning on ordering from the site when I get the chance. I'm thinking maybe red stripes with 3/4 sleeves? Or a short sleeved navy one like Mikey's? Or perhaps both? I can't decide!

In any case, posting about this was primarily sparked by a visit to the site after seeing it on him a few days ago and a need to spread the word since I've received a couple of emails asking where readers can get striped shirts like mine. While everyone doesn't have the chance to score at vintage or thrift stores, I'd say that these Saint James shirts are a great alternative. Wait, what am I saying? These shirts are way better than any ratty old tee! I need to stop myself from buying their whole selection. For now, here are these amazing shots that I found at the Lark blog. I'm a sucked for these colors in photos.

Finally managed to snap a good picture of the $20 Marc Jacobs shoes. Still in shock and realized how perfectly professional they are for job interviews which should be coming up soon now that I am a senior. Don't get me wrong, I'm into recent trends just as much as any blogger is (maybe to a lesser degree, hmph) but it's comforting to have shoes like these which will never go out of style like say, gladiator platforms. Every girl out there needs a pair of timeless shoes! Did I mention that they're handcrafted? Mmmhmm.

My luck may be terrible in other respects but when it comes to clothes, there is no better word to describe it other than this: PWNAGE. While the circumstances were unfortunate given that the best boutique in the East Bay, August, is closing their store in Rockridge, I took advantage of it anyway and scored this Vena Cava dress for, wait for it... $50. $50?! Not $600?! I looked at the price tag in disbelief, tried it on anyway, asked the girls there if it was really true, and finally purchased it on the spot. I wore it out yesterday for lunch and ice cream with my boyfriend but never managed to take an outfit shot because I looked horrible due to the insane heat. You guys are just going to have to wait... I'll be nice this time and link you guys to the runway picture. Cheers!

After being scolded by my lil sister (who is a make up artist) on how crappy my make up looks I feel a sudden urge to start wearing make up correctly and nicely.
I only draw my eye brows and put a lil blush on my face everyday(unless I'm at home all day) and according to her I need to change my eye brow pencil cus my eyebrows are too dark.

I need your prayers.
The weather in LA is super nice but there is a huge forest fire in my neighborhood(La Canada)
Please pray with me so the fire will stop and I really hope all the animals were able to escape the fire. :(

back to school, not so cool (but food will always make things better)

acne shirt, vintage skirt, thrifted oxfords

I started out the day wearing something completely different but first I spilled ketchup on my vintage blouse and two hour later I snagged my green skirt on a branch. When you add that to the frustrations I'm facing with getting into a certain class today was just not my day. As I stated the last post, the comments and emails have made me feel so much better and I appreciate everyone's love and words of encouragement!

So I changed my clothes and tried to start the day afresh. After all, all I can really do at this point is keep my chin up and hope for the best since there is always a bright side to every misfortune. My favorite shirt always knows how to make me feel better (and somehow magically never stains considering my perpetual clumsiness) tucked into a vintage tweed skirt (with pockets!!) and lace-up oxfords. Very 60s college student, no? I wonder if they had these problems getting into classes 40 years ago. Oh, just lost track of where I was going again. Is my stream of consciousness too tiring?

(Looking at pictures of food also comforts me in times of need so here are some shots from Tartine in San Francisco!)

chocolate chip cookie from Tartine Bakery

Tartine Bakery usually has ridiculous lines out the door but we lucked out this time around although we still had to wait a while for our food. We started out with a nice big cookie while we waited for our food since there's never anything wrong with dessert before a meal! Don't believe old wives tales (or tell my mom that I said this)!

quiche from Tartine Bakery

My pick: a slice of quiche. At first I wondered if I should have gone with two slices but one was definitely enough. Mine had crème fraîche, local eggs, ham, and various herbs. So filling and perfectly flaky! There was also a vegetarian option with tomatoes which I will try eventually for sure.

spicy turkey sandwich from Tartine Bakery

His pick: a pressed spicy turkey sandwich. What's inside escapes me but I'm sure you can look at their menu online (I can't open pdfs here, pfft). He ended up super full and still had to take a slice home! Definitely something you can share with someone else.

refinery 29 + food bloggers

A big thank you to Connie and Refinery 29 for featuring yours truly and a few of my favorite bloggers on their site! I was having a terrible day but the comments and emails I've received today made me feel so much better. I strongly advise everyone to visit the article (click on the picture!) and follow these blogs, if you haven't already of course.

Finally got around to developing film today. My boyfriend made these unbelievably fluffy lemon ricotta pancakes for us last week for breakfast. They were so adorable! I have a terrible soft spot for mini anything... burgers, hats, puppies, you name it. Anyone from Tumblr remember my obsession with Jack-in-the-Box's mini sirloin burgers? There's this bar across the street from Pika's which has overpriced sliders which I've been dying to try just because they're tiny and adorable. Ahh!

loungin' and wayfarin'

ray-ban wayfarers

While I was away, my roommate informed me that Lucky Magazine had sent me a package and I ended coming home to these babies! They're slightly smaller than the regular wayfarers which I actually prefer since I have my other oversized vintage shades to hide behind when necessary. Lately I've been living in these and pulling my hair back into no-fuss low buns. I'm bracing myself for 9:30am classes by doing what I do best: nothing. Switching my schedule around has been giving me a terrible headache for the past week or so but I guess I just can't get around having super packed Tuesdays and Thursdays. At least I get to rest with just one class every other day? I guess. In any case, this won't affect the blog in a negative way. If anything, once I'm back on a more regular daily routine there will probably be more posts come Wednesday. Good bye summer, it was nice knowing you.

I've been looking for the perfect bedding that's not white.
I'm thinking maybe charcoal gray.
I've been looking everywhere from crate & barrel to online and can't find anything that's 'the one'
Just to give you guys an idea,
this is how my bed looks right now

(my) perfect graphic tee

acne thea printed tee via creatures of comfort

I don't usually overly obsess over clothing but I actually gasped when I saw this. I've always had a soft spot for black designs on slightly oversized white tees (have I ever shown you guys my Zara face tee?) but this one takes the cake. Ho-ly crap. If you're new here, I should probably mention that I study ancient cultures on a daily basis and upon finding this I nerded out for a good ten minutes trying to figure out if when I should buy it or how I would blog about it. Well, more like twenty minutes if you count the additional ten that it took trying to properly articulate myself in front of this computer screen. Ahh damn.

Been feeling under the weather while wishing I could have another piece of tiramisu from Schubert's Bakery on Clement Street in San Francisco. If only all of life's problems could be solved with sweets. Well, they come pretty damn close, in my honest opinion. (Reminder to self: use film camera more often.)

your mom does not count as a fan

zara dress and platforms, vintage crinoline (underneath)

Another all-white outfit featuring my new Zara platforms. Today we took care of some chores and watched Julie & Julia downtown. I also managed to get a hold of my friend's DSLR to snap my outfit shots. Here you can also get a pretty good idea of how ridiculously high the ceilings are in Pika's apartment. Everyone around me seems to have a DSLR and it's about time I picked one up as well. My dad actually asked me once if I needed a new camera for my blog! I forget that a lot of people I know IRL do look at this, including my parents. While I unpacked my bags last month during my last visit home, I showed my mom my floral H&M maxi dress and she told me that she had already seen it on my blog. Oh momma! Well, we shall see about that camera...

(Again, no pictures of the shoes, sorry. Here's a frittata Pika made for lunch with yesterday's leftovers.)

bon appetit

All I really needed to feel better was a nice little dinner cooked by my cutie Pika. I think we were both being a little testy yesterday. Sometimes I forget how nice it can be to date someone who can cook up amazing meals like this. The pork tenderloin was tender and juicy and went perfectly with the mole sauce he made from scratch. The salad was just as delicious and the dressing made me rethink my usual distaste for both salad and avocados. Love you, Pika!
